Diet foodDiet food is also called as dietetic food. It refers to the alteration of the recipe of any food or drink in some way to achieve some dietic goal. It is usually consumed to lose weight or to gain weight or build the body. The process of making a diet food involves finding a Low calorie substitute for some high calorie ingredient. For instance, replacing the sugar with a sugar substitute.This is a common practice in diet soft drinks such as diet coke. But replacing a sugar in a cooked food is difficult because of the low tolerating level of the sugar substitutes. Most of them would not tolerate high heat. Similarly fat is replaced by sugar and other ingredients. Olestra is a popular fat substitute. The substitutes are developed but none of them have gained wide acceptance. There are also controversies about diet foods. For instance, it is said that products used to replace sugar are harmful than sugar itself.
