The chicken soup diet is one of the most popular diets that exist. Although there may be some variations on the ingredients, it's popularity among people, specially women, hasn't dwindled since it appeared.

What Is A Chicken Soup Diet?

The chicken soup diet recipe is a very old plate that, according to historians, goes back to the time of Ancient Egypt, where determined curative powers were associated with this soup. It's popularity spread through out the ancient world and was known as an excellent way to cure common cold or as a nutritional supplement for people who were suffering from bad nutrition.

It wasn't until the appearance of modern medicine that someone decided to make a scientific study of chicken soup. Dr. Stephen Rennard, with his colleagues of the Medical Center of the University of Nebraska, made a study and found that, after all, chicken soup could have some curative properties. Unfortunately, the study didn't involve a clinical trial, so there is still some doubts on the extent of it's abilities.

How Does It Work?

The success behind the chicken soup diet is that it involves a drastic reduction in of kilocalories from your diet. But, what is a kilocalorie? A kilocalorie is an unit of measurement for determining an amount of energy. In the case of food, a kilocalorie means the amount of energy that the food has. For example, a Burger King Double Whopper with Cheese has 1020 kilocalories. That's almost half of the recommended daily allowance for an adult male of thirty years of age.

One tiny bit of information that may help you. Commonly, the word "calories" is used for determining the amount of energy that resides within food. But that definition is wrong. Kilocalorie is the definition that should be used when speaking about the energy content of a determined food. If you find that a packaged food says calories, in reality, it means kilocalories.

So, instead of filling yourself up with food with a high caloric content (and, in the majority of cases, with little nutritional value since they are high in fats and sugar), you will nourish your body with chicken soup diet. After all, chicken soup contains all the proteins, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins and minerals that your body needs.
